Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM) has released its financial results for the first quarter of 2025, showcasing impressive performance that surpasses market expectations. The company also provides guidance for the remainder of the year, affirming its strategic commitments and financial outlook.

Humana Inc. Reports Adj. EPS of $11.58 for First-Quarter, Above Expectations

Humana Inc. has reported its financial results for the first quarter of 2025, revealing earnings per share (EPS) of $10.30 on a GAAP basis and an adjusted EPS of $11.58. This performance significantly exceeded the market’s expectations, which had anticipated an EPS of $9.96. The company’s revenue for the quarter was $32.112 billion, slightly below the expected $32.22 billion, yet still demonstrating robust growth compared to the previous year’s $29.611 billion.

In comparing the current quarter’s performance to the same period last year, Humana’s consolidated income before income taxes increased to $1,691 million from $1,014 million. Adjusted for non-GAAP measures, the income was $1,893 million, up from $1,191 million in the previous year. This growth is attributed to several strategic initiatives, including value creation efforts and put/call valuation adjustments.

The Insurance segment benefit ratio was reported at 87.4 percent, aligning closely with the company’s expectations of approximately 87.5 percent. This consistency reflects the company’s effective management of its insurance operations, maintaining a stable cost structure while expanding its service offerings.

Humana Reaffirms 2025 Full-Year Adj. EPS Guidance at $16.25

Looking forward, Humana has affirmed its full-year 2025 adjusted EPS guidance at approximately $16.25. However, the company has revised its GAAP EPS guidance to approximately $14.68, down from the previous estimate of $15.88. This adjustment reflects ongoing strategic realignments, including the exit from certain unprofitable plans and counties, which are expected to enhance long-term value creation.

Despite the revision in GAAP EPS guidance, Humana remains confident in its pricing strategy and growth prospects. The company anticipates a decline in individual Medicare Advantage membership by approximately 550,000, which aligns with its focus on sustainable, long-term value rather than short-term membership growth. This strategic shift is expected to strengthen the company’s market position and financial performance over time.

In addition to its financial guidance, Humana continues to advance its long-term strategy with notable achievements in its CenterWell and Medicaid businesses. The selection of CenterWell Pharmacy as the fulfillment pharmacy for NovoCare® Pharmacy’s weight loss medication is a testament to the company’s expanding capabilities and commitment to delivering comprehensive healthcare solutions.
