EQUI Global, a tokenized venture capital fund, recently announced that Steve Wozniak is officially coming on board as co-founder before its launch. Wozniak, best known for being the co-founder of Apple, has been a vocal supporter of the blockchain space since 2017.

Steve Wozniak is being brought on as co-founder of EQUI Global and will head up its technology investments, according to an announcement by the venture capital fund. EQUI is anticipating some 80 percent of its total investments will be in technology companies.

EUI Global’s other co-founders, Baroness Michelle Mone and Douglas Barrowman, are known for being big Bitcoin fans in the real estate space. This year, the couple sold some 50 or so apartments via Bitcoin; last year, they began the Aston Plaza and Residences property development for $350 million, which will be completely priced with Bitcoin. Now, they are partnering with Wozniak to launch EQUI Global, a fund hoping to disrupt the venture capital industry.

“20 Businesses Plan to Accompany Us at Launch”

The announcement of Wozniak co-founding EQUI Global also came with a sneak peak of what we can expect for the future. Wozniak said

“We’ve already got over 20 businesses that we are looking at and we haven’t even officially launched yet. It’s going to be very exciting. Ultimately, our mission is to seek, support and fund the blockchain and tech stars of tomorrow.”

The EQUI fund will mainly be for non-institutional investors and tech companies. Investors will be able to purchase EQUI tokens which allows for liquidity and also represents one’s stake in the fund. Wozniak firmly believes that the project will disrupt the industry, which is why he chose to co-found EQUI Global.

“I get ideas pitched to me every single day in fact dozens and I always say no,” said Wozniak. “Since I co-founded Apple with Steve Jobs, this is about the second time in twenty years that I actually said yes, I want to be a part of this. It has to be something I really believe in and I really believe in EQUI.”

Since venture capital is usually subject to the same regulations as private securities, perhaps EQUI Global should consider tokenized securities for their platform. Ethereum, which will support the platform, is also considering such options for its network.

Will blockchain play a role in disrupting the venture capital industry? Wil EQUI Global play a part in it? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
